Katie Burner, LICSW, LCSW
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with four years of experience in counseling adults, adolescents, and children. I received my Bachelors in Psychology and Masters of Social Work, both from Brigham Young University. I specialize in issues of anxiety, depression, work-stress, relationship-stress, life transition stressors, addictions, and trauma. I have been trained in the Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM) and find using this model as one useful tool in the treatment of trauma.
My therapeutic approach is to create a compassionate, non-judgmental, and engaging space to work through the difficulties that brought you to therapy. I believe that people can choose to make changes and live differently. When you struggle to know how to make these changes, therapy can provide a safe environment where you recognize your inherent strengths and learn skills to make the changes you desire. I use a number of therapeutic modalities and techniques to tailor therapy to your specific needs, and will work alongside you to create goals that are meaningful to you. I find great joy in walking with clients on their journey toward answers and healing.
I am currently accepting new adult clients. Counseling at Dupont accepts Carefirst Bluecross/Blue Shield and Magellan insurance plans. We also take out of network clients and charge $125 per session. We are conveniently located across the street from the Dupont Circle Metro Station.

Dave Dayton, PhD
Making movies didn’t work out. After graduating from college with a degree in film, my career path took a dramatic turn when I began working in an assisted living facility for developmentally disabled adults. While developing and implementing behavioral treatment plans, I embarked on an ongoing journey to discover how to facilitate personal change and learning (I’m still simultaneously teased and driven by this question). With some guidance from a mentor and friend, I enrolled in the Counseling Psychology doctorate program at Brigham Young University.
In the past ten years, I have worked in counseling centers in Hawaii, Missouri, and Utah. For the past four years I’ve worked as an associate at Dodini Behavioral Health, specializing in men’s issues, anxiety & depression, compulsive behaviors, interpersonal communication, trauma recovery, assertiveness, ambivalence, and procrastination. I’m trained in a variety of modalities, including ACT Therapy, interpersonal process therapy, existential psychotherapy, and psychodynamic approaches (google these terms for more info!).
I strive to create an atmosphere of acceptance and non-judgment where my clients feel free to explore and gain insights into their blind spots. As I get to know my clients, I customize my approach to fit their needs, goals, and personality. My goal is to help them develop the motivation and willingness needed to take risks and confront the fears that are holding them back from living the life they want to live.
